People's School for Justice

Sung Tse is a 1.5 generation Korean-American married to a Cantonese-American and mother of a 21 year-old trans son and a 23-year old cis, straight son. She is an advocate for increasing visibility and awareness of the Asian Pacific Islander LGBTQ+ community, and serves as the president of the San Gabriel Valley API chapter of PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). PFLAG was founded in 1973 after the simple act of a mother publicly supporting her gay son. It is the first and largest organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people, their parents and families, and allies. PFLAG San Gabriel Valley API is one of only 2 chapters in the nation that focuses and is tailored to meet the needs of the API community.

In this learning session, Sung Tse will share the story of her family's journey in supporting her transmasculine son and offer resources for learning how to be an ally to LGBTQ+ friends and family.
