Celebrate the launch of Background Artist: The Life and Work of Tyrus Wong by scholar and author Karen Fang at the Chinese American Museum on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 6:30 pm. Fang’s biography details the inspiring story of Tyrus Wong’s remarkable 106-year life, starting with his work as a studio sketch artist at Warner Bros. to the groundbreaking masterpieces he produced as part of the Works Progress Administration, a program created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to stimulate employment during the Great Depression.
This latest installment of Beyond the Page also features former Los Angeles Times editor Elaine Woo, who will team with Fang in exploring Wong's iconic images and enduring influence.
