The Asian American community continues to be scapegoated for the Covid-19 pandemic.
Many elderly members of our community have recently been attacked in hate crimes across the nation, resulting in the death of Vicha Ratanapakdee, an 84-year-old Thai American man. We’ve watched horrifying clips of a Vietnamese grandmother being robbed in San Jose, a Filipino American man being slashed from ear to ear in a NYC subway, an Asian American man being stabbed in NYC Chinatown, and countless other gruesome crimes.
In this climate of rampant xenophobia, we must go one step beyond awareness, and be better equipped to both protect ourselves and those around us, and take action to support our communities.
We must remember that our strength lies in our solidarity. It’s not me vs. you. It’s us vs. racism. Like many times before in history, the Asian, Black and other communities of color are united in our fight against racism and white supremacy.
What can YOU do? Join Act To Change for an event on what we can all do to prevent and address future acts of violence and support the AAPI community.
