This Thursday, June 23, is the 40th Anniversary of the death of Vincent Chin, the Chinese American man whose racially-motivated beating death in Detroit in 1982, birthed a new awareness of Asian American identity and ignited a movement for stronger Federal civil rights protections. There will be a public commemoration and vigil at the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument, beginning at 6:30pm. The live event is organized by the L.A. County Commission on Human relations/LA vs. Hate and the Chinese American Museum.
