Every year in December, the El Monte Promise Foundation hosts the Annual Tamalada fundraising dinner as a way for community members to gather to celebrate the successes of the year and to honor outstanding accomplishments in the community with the Bobby Salcedo Esperanza Award. The funds raised at this event go directly to support the EMPF Scholar Savings Program and operations.
The Tamalada began in 2004 as a grassroots movement by the El Monte Coalition of Latino Professionals to fundraise for student scholarships. With the creation of the El Monte Promise Foundation in 2012, the event grew. It now brings together hundreds of community members, including leaders from state and local government, community and business organizations, and our educations partners from the local school districts and community college.
This event provides a valuable opportunity for community members to show their support of the important work of the El Monte Promise Foundation as build cradle-to-college pathways in El Monte and the surrounding communities.
